Most funded accounts are lost to a rule the trader didn’t know, not a bad market. Here are the rules that end accounts and delay payouts at 9 firms, taken from each firm’s own pages.

What the rules mean

Daily loss limit: The most the account may lose in one trading day. Firms measure it differently: from the day’s opening balance, from the higher of balance or equity, or as a fixed share of the starting balance. It includes open trades, so a floating loss can breach it before anything closes. On most programmes, hitting it fails the account; on a few it only pauses trading until the next day.
Maximum loss (drawdown): How far the account may fall overall. A static limit sits at a fixed level below the starting balance. A trailing limit rises as the account makes new highs, so profits you give back count against it.
When the day resets: Each firm starts its trading day at its own hour: midnight in Prague, 5 PM in New York, 00:00 UTC+3. A losing trade held past that hour counts against the new day.
News rules: Some firms ban trading for a few minutes either side of high-impact news, and doing so can fail the account. Others let you trade but remove the profit. Many only apply the rule once you’re funded.
Consistency: A cap on how much of your total profit can come from your best day. It doesn’t fail the account, but it can delay a payout until other days catch up.
Profit split: Your share of the profit when you’re paid. Several firms offer more than one payout option, trading a higher split for a longer wait or extra conditions.
